IVF/ICSI treatments
IVF (In Vitro-Fertilization)
This commonly covers a whole group of assisted reproduction procedures, but in fact it refers specifically to a process of fertilization of an egg by sperm which takes place outside the woman’s body (in the laboratory). It is used in when there is abnormal sperm or when fallopian tubes are not patent.
Procedures preceding IVF are initial fertility assessment, ovarian stimulation and egg collection.
Outcome of IVF is a fertilized egg – an embryo, which is subsequently transferred into the woman’s womb.
