SPERM DONATION
Sperm donation is an option if the male partner does not have any sperm, i.e., he is azoospermic or if he has undergone radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Some men may elect not to use their own sperm because they are at risk of transmitting a genetic disorder to their offspring. Following implications counselling, sperm donation is also available for single women or lesbian couples wishing to conceive.
It is possible to use a known or anonymous sperm donor. 'Known' or 'anonymous' refers only to knowledge of the donor from the perspective of the patient being treated. Since April 2005, the law has changed to allow children born from donated gametes to find out their genetic parentage upon request at the age of 18. London Fertility Centre selects sperm from HFEA licensed donor banks whose donors have been carefully screened for infectious disease and analysed for chromosomal abnormalities. They will also have received a full medical consultation and counselling.
Couples can request physical characteristics so that skin colour, racial origin, height, eye and hair colour can be matched.
EMBRYO DONATION
Embryo donation is an option for couples requiring both egg and sperm donation or single women following counselling. Embryos are usually donated by couples with a successful outcome who wish others to similarly benefit.
SURROGACY
Surrogacy has been a long-standing commitment at London Fertility Centre for those who cannot carry a child due to absence or disease of the uterus or who have experienced recurrent miscarriages or repeated IVF failure.
Patients may recruit their own surrogate or find one through a surrogacy organisation. We provide full IVF (host) and partial insemination (straight) surrogacy after appropriate counselling.
